1104/2024 - Red flare sighting

11/08/2024

On Sunday 11th August 2024, the service was requested by Jobourg MRCC to search between Pirou on the coast of France and the east coast of Jersey, after a person on the beach at Pirou had reported 6 red flares.

Lions' Pride left Guernsey and headed for the search area - an area of some 60 square miles between France and Jersey.

The visibility was very good and the sea state was smooth.

A fishing vessel was observed in the search area but on orbiting the vessel and observing with the infra-red camera, the crew of the vessel were seen to be working on deck and there was no sign of distress. The vessel was observed at various locations during the search.

On completing the search area Lions' Pride was stood down and returned to Guernsey, having been airborne for around an hour and forty five minutes.
