1073/2024 - Missing kayaker

Channel Islands Air Search were requested to assist in the search for a kayaker missing from Alderney. It had been reported that the kayak had left Braye earlier that morning but was being carried by the tide and was unsure of his position.
The last known position of the blue kayak was approximately 6 miles north of Fort Quesnard on the north east of Alderney.
Lions' Pride departed from Guernsey at 1050 hrs, setting course for the search area.
Alderney lifeboat was already in attendance, and the Cherbourg-based naval helicopter would also be in attendance.
Arriving on scene at 1105 hrs, a search was commenced around the area of the last known position, in smooth seas and good visibility.
It was shortly confirmed that the French helicopter had located the casualty north of the Goury peninsula. The casualty was winched onto the helicopter and transferred to the Alderney lifeboat to be returned to Alderney for medical assessment.
Lions' Pride was stood down at 1116 hrs and returned to Guernsey, landing at 1130 hrs to be refuelled and made ready for the next service.
