06/12/2015

The Channel Islands Air Search aircraft, call sign Air Search One, was called out twice by Jersey Coastguard on Sunday 6th December 2015 - first at 9.15 a.m., then at 12.20 p.m. - to assist in the search for a missing person who had not been seen since the early hours of Saturday morning, 5th December.

The aircraft took off at 10.00 a.m. and headed to Jersey, where a search area was established around the area of Carrefour Selous, St. John and the north coast.

An Air Search Crew Member said "CIAS were tasked to cover an area of approximmately 18 square miles and this was achieved by flying close search legs both north / south and east / west.  The area was intensively searched including wooded areas and areas of enclosed water such as the Handois Reservoir.  Police officers and Civil Protection officers were also searching fields and woodland.  Visibility was good but nothing relevant was spotted."

The aircraft landed at Guernsey at 12.20 p.m., refuelled and changed crew, taking off again at 12.50 p.m.  The search continued in the same area until 2.25 p.m., when CIAS were stood down, returning to Guernsey at 2.40 p.m., having been airborne for a total of four hours 40 minutes over the two sorties.
