17/11/2014

The Channel Islands Air Search aircraft “Lions’ Pride”, call sign Air Search One, was called out by Guernsey Coastguard at 1605 hrs on Sunday 16th November 2014 to look for a missing kayaker. This is the fourth time this week that the aircraft has responded to call outs.

Two kayakers were operating along the south of Guernsey in the area of Le Gouffre. One kayaker came ashore and raised an alarm that the second person in a red kayak had been unable to remain with him.

Air Search One was airborne at 1630 hrs and was just crossing the cliffs when the aircraft was informed by Air Traffic Control that the second kayaker had been located and was being retrieved by an inshore craft. The lifeboat was also in attendance.

The rear observers saw a kayak on the rocks to the west of Le Gouffre.

The aircraft returned to the airport, landing at 1640 hrs having been airborne for 10 minutes.
